Three OUCAGS alumni who have become senior clinical academics at the University of Oxford provide an overview of their career paths and current roles in recent ‘sixty seconds’ features.

 

Sixty seconds with Adam Handel

MRC New investigator, Associate Professor and Consultant Neurologist

Prof. Handel was an OUCAGS Academic Foundation doctor and an NIHR Clinical Lecturer, before becoming an MRC New investigator.

Sixty Seconds with Fadi Issa

Professor of Transplantation, Associate Head of the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, and Surgical Sciences Theme Lead

Prof. Issa was an OUCAGS NIHR Clinical Lecturer. In 2025, he became the Academic Lead for Research Funding with the University’s Medical Sciences Division. In this role, he provides leadership support to the Head and Associate Heads of Division in areas related to funding for the Division’s research activity.

 

Sixty Seconds with Catherine Swales

Consultant Rheumatologist, Director of Clinical Studies (University of Oxford Medical School) and Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS)

Dr. Swales was an OUCAGS Local Clinical Lecturer. It was during her lectureship that she added medical research to her portfolio of clinical academic activities at Oxford, culminating in her current role with the Medical School  and her role within NDORMS.
