‘The Essentials of Qualitative Research for Healthcare’ course provides an overview of the different approaches, key principles and common challenges in qualitative research.

The course is facilitated by Dr Francine Toye and runs biennially, online, on a Saturday morning. It is available to OUCAGS trainees free of charge. Other medical doctors and allied healthcare professionals working within NHSE - Thames Valley may also apply.

The aims of the course are to:

• provide an accessible overview of the essentials of qualitative research and its different approaches;
• explore what makes a ‘good’ qualitative study;
• demonstrate the basic principles of coding and analysing qualitative data;
• understand some of the challenges of designing a qualitative research study, such as data collection, sample size, and data saturation.
