Project researcher: Dr Roshni Patel, Academic Specialised Foundation Programme

Roshni’s ASFP project surrounded a review of the national IgG4-RD multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting, which has been ongoing for over 8 years as a collaboration between Oxford and UCL. She thoroughly enjoyed taking the lead in multiple stages of the research process, including:

  • creating the data collection tool,
  • collecting data on over 1,000 patient encounters,
  • performing data analysis to compare progression of the MDT over time, and
  • communicating research findings through a variety of media.

Roshni’s 4-month research block came at the start of her FY2. This, alongside academic day-release in FY1, was utilised firstly in conducting a literature review surrounding IgG4-RD. This helped to consolidate Roshni's understanding of the disease and, subsequently, guide the fields chosen for data collection.

Population of the data collection tool spanned the vast majority of Roshni's 4-month block, during which she was also formally writing up the project.

Roshni has been able to continue the research work throughout the remainder of her FY2 and had the opportunity to present the team’s findings at EASL 2025, in Amsterdam.

Roshni is looking forward to completing this project with the team and getting involved with further research opportunities within the group.
